25 Books for Grandparents to Read to Their Grandchildren
31 July, 2025 ● Written by STORYVOR
We’re always pro reading aloud, but it can be extra special when grandparents read to their grandchildren. Read them the classics you loved as a child, or read them something you’ve always meant to pick up, but just haven’t gotten around to yet. Discover shiny, new books together, or re-read the same ones until the pages fall out. There really aren’t any limitations here, but below we’ve listed twenty-five impeccable choices, warm, timeless, and meaningful all at once, with just enough fun and depth to invite intergenerational connection and discussion.
Tip: Try ending storytime with a bit of storytelling of your own, by sharing a memory or experience from your own childhood. Reading is about connecting — to history, to faraway places, to ourselves and our families — and storytelling is, too. Talking with your grandchildren about your own memories allows them a curiosity-sparking glimpse of the past.
